How GeneRent Slashed Costs and Emissions with a 100kW Battery Energy Storage System

Australian businesses are under increasing pressure to reduce their carbon footprints while maintaining operational efficiency. GeneRent is a Brisbane-based energy rental specialist, whereby we’ve issued a 100kW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) as part of the rental fleet.

This advanced BESS system was introduced to address a variety of energy challenges faced by GeneRent, particularly in prime power applications. With issues such as light loading, phase unbalancing, and managing fuel consumption, we needed a solution that would not only optimise energy use but also align with the commitment to sustainability. The results have been nothing short of transformative.

Achieving Remarkable Reductions in Diesel Usage

One of the most significant achievements of this new BESS integration has been the drastic reduction in diesel run time. Previously, our diesel generators were running up to 24 hours a day to meet energy demands. With the BESS in place, diesel run time has been cut down to just 2 hours and 40 minutes per day. This change has had a profound impact on diesel consumption, slashing usage from 3,864 liters per week to just 418 liters per week.

This reduction in diesel usage has translated into substantial cost savings. Generent’s diesel expenses have plummeted from $7,728 per week to a mere $836 per week.

Environmental Impact: A Massive Cut in CO2 Emissions

Beyond the financial savings, the environmental benefits of the BESS are equally impressive. With the reduction in diesel usage, Generent has achieved a significant decrease in CO2 emissions, cutting 8,959.6 kilograms of CO2 per week. This reduction underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability and their role in promoting cleaner energy solutions.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency and Reducing Noise

The integration of the BESS has also resolved several operational challenges that were previously hindering efficiency. Light loading issues during off-peak times have been eliminated, ensuring that the system operates at optimal levels regardless of demand fluctuations. Additionally, the BESS has addressed phase unbalancing issues, a critical factor as GeneRent’s projects continue to expand.

Another key benefit of the BESS is the creation of quieter work environments. With diesel generators now running for only a fraction of the time, the system provides 21 hours of pure silence each day. This not only improves working conditions but also minimizes noise pollution in surrounding areas.

Looking Ahead: A Greener, More Efficient Future

The success of this BESS integration at GeneRent serves as a powerful example of how businesses can significantly reduce both costs and environmental impact by adopting advanced energy storage solutions. As the demand for sustainable energy continues to grow, the benefits of such systems will only become more apparent.
